Village Innovation Opens Minds

Land O’ Lakes International Development is spreading village innovation in Tanzania through its Innovations in Gender Equality (IGE) program. IGE hosts workshops that teach villagers to design machines from locally available materials that solve everyday agricultural problems. This program aims to improve the lives of village women who perform long, tedious hours of agricultural labor in order to provide food for their families. IGE seeks to improve the health, livelihood and agency of women in East Africa by providing them these opportunities.

This video follows the journey of Bernard Kiwia (inventor) and Noela Byabachwezi (mechanical engineer), two teachers at the IGE workshops, as they check up on the progress of the inventions from four Tanzanian villages. Villagers show the latest prototypes of their machines as they prepare to showcase them as the IGE EXPO coming up in a few weeks.
